Apply today to become an IBEW apprentice

There are many different career options available to men and women who live in Central Ohio, but few can offer the opportunities found in an apprenticeship through The Electrical Trades Center.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship through the ETC trains a person to become a highly skilled electrical worker who can do all tasks assigned to them without supervision. All work is expected to be performed at a high quality level and should be performed efficiently.

The ETC’s apprenticeship program follows the earn while you learn model, which pays apprentices a good hourly wage to learn on-the-job from journeymen IBEW members.

The ETC proudly offers the area’s only electrical industry registered apprenticeship program, which is the perfect way to start a rewarding and challenging career.

An IBEW apprenticeship through the ETC includes:

  • Paid hands-on training with experienced electrical workers
  • Classroom instruction
  • Good hourly wage
  • Great health insurance
  • Excellent retirement benefits
  • Scheduled raises
  • Industry-leading education
  • Training on the latest industry technology
  • OSHA-safety certifications to stay safe on jobsite

Why choose an apprenticeship?

There are many benefits that come through a registered apprenticeship program compared to going to college:

Better Financial Situation

  • College students amass tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt
  • Apprentices receive no-cost education and do not go into debt
  • The earn while you learn model pays apprentices a good hourly wage for hands-on training with journeymen electrical workers
  • While college students are earning little to no money, apprentices are on the pathway to financial independence and can position themselves to make major purchases such as a house or car or can financially support a young family
  • Apprentices also earn full-family health insurance and great retirement benefits
  • When apprentices complete their training, they top out as journeymen. First-year journeymen often times make more money and have better health insurance and retirement benefits than first-year college graduates
  • IBEW apprentices receive classroom instruction and lab training at the state-of-the-art Electrical Trades Center

Work Opportunities

  • No guarantee of job placement upon college graduation
  • College graduates are not guaranteed to work in their field of education
  • Apprentices work throughout their apprenticeship and if they are laid off, the Local
  • Union will help place them with another electrical contractor
  • The construction industry offers the opportunity to work on different types of projects in different locations
  • Apprentices may work outside or inside, depending on the project
  • The work outlook in Central Ohio has never been better, as the work outlook is expected to remain strong for the next decade
  • IBEW electrical worker jobs cannot be outsourced overseas or replaced by technology

A Challenging Career

  • Working in an office doing the same tasks everyday is boring
  • Apprenticeships offer men and women the opportunity to work with their hands and face new challenges each day as they build things
  • Experiences and the type of work performed by an apprentice can vary based on the project and jobsite
